Children hurting animals;

Learning to respect animals means understanding how to treat animals kindly. To see a young person belting a young animal is appalling. This bullying is handed down through the generations and makes the mindset that it is okay to mistreat animals difficult to break. Scary as it is, the hitting of animals is common place in some saleyards across Australia even though it is not a practice which is legally accepted. Goes to show the difference between what is said in legislation and what happens in the real world.

Again we are in Queensland in December 2006. We film a young boy continually hitting a very young calf with a long stick.

The calf bellows and bellows yet the boy continues to hit. It is indicative of an industry in which the animal suffers because we are too ignorant and arrogant to learn the skills to handle animals with kindness and compassion even though such courses are available.
